About Whiskey Vinyl

Whiskey Vinyl is a New York City based independent music label founded during the summer of 2013 by Peter Scialla, Matt Pinfield, and Rich Macary. Inspired by the timeless rock and roll sound of 60′s, 70′s and 80′s as well as the diverse alternative rock formats of the 90′s and 2000′s, musical eras that collectively created hundreds of superstars, legendary performers and iconic songs, Whiskey Vinyl has launched a new music industry platform to discover, develop and promote the next generation of rock inspired artists. The label’s founders, along with partner Miguel Balbi, share a common passion and a clear mission to take new, alternative and hybrid rock formats and artists to the forefront of the music industry and to the top of the charts!

Whiskey Vinyl Productions, a subsidiary of the label, is focused on creating local, regional and national music series and events featuring both new and emerging artists along side more established acts and/or national headliners. These events will give new and emerging artists access to venues and large audiences normally out of their reach while also creating an exciting and entertaining experience for music fans. The initial series of artist showcases will be launched as “Whiskey Vinyl Presents” with additional events and music series being announced for major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas, Nashville, Boston, Austin, San Francisco, Chicago and many more.

Matt Pinfield – Creative Director, Director of A&R

Matt Pinfield's career as a MTV music personality, television show host, radio DJ and A & R executive has firmly established him as one of the most knowledgable music authorities on the planet. Always considered a flavor-maker by music industry heavyweights and rock stars alike, Matt has earned a reputation for being a virtual “The Rock and Roll Encyclopedia.”

Matt got his start as the youngest DJ at Rutgers’ Radio station WRSU at just sixteen-years of age and eventually became Music Director for the station. After college, Matt landed a job as radio DJ at New Jersey’s commercial rock station WHTG. Matt was highly influential at WHTG, pushing development as one of the nation’s first commercial modern rock stations.

Matt soon moved to television as a host on MTV shows. Shortly thereafter, Matt’s musical taste and uncanny knowledge helped him acquire the title Director of Music Programming for the network. He was host of dozens of popular music shows such as, MTV’s “120 Minutes,” VH1’s “Top 20 Countdown,” HDnet’s “Soundoff With Matt Pinfield,” “Mattrock,” “Pinfield Suite,” “Pinfield Presents,” “Rocks Off,” “Say What,” “MTV Live,” and more than 100 MTV specials. Matt’s wealth of musical knowledge didn’t go unnoticed- MTV’s popular daily countdown show “Total Request Live (TRL)” featured a segment entitled “Stump Matt,” in which Matt faced obscure music questions from audience members; almost always proving his knowledge with great accuracy.

Columbia Records sought out Matt Pinfield and titled him VP of A&R and Artist Developement, where he developed Coheed & Cambria and Crossfade, whose records were certified Gold and Platinum respectively. Matt made his return to radio in 2008, signing on as the morning drive DJ on New York station WRXP’s Rock Show. As WRXP was the newst station on New York block, Matt was instrumental in the success of the station’s infancy, with segments like, “Play Matt’s iPod,” the radio revival of “Stump Matt,” “Local licks,” and other station DJs continually plugging Matt’s show.

Matt is continually sought out by musicians because of his wealth of musical knowledge and comfortable and entertaining interview style. In 2005 the Rolling Stones were interviewed together for the first time in 35 years, and they chose Matt Pinfield. He hosts world premieres for the industry’s top rock acts, like Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay, U2, and others. In 2011 Matt made his return to MTV as host on “120 Minutes”, where he remains one of the most highly regarded personalities in the music and entertainment industry.

In 2012, Matt was chosen to host "Flashback", the classic rock weekend show on 219 radio stations owned by Cumulus Media.

In 2013, he was elected to The Recording Academy's (Grammy) Board of Governors, further solidifying his music industry stature and influence. In addition to his busy television and radio commitments, Matt is actively involved in developing and promoting artists for Whiskey Vinyl as well as setting the label's musical direction and vision. Matt has a number of major projects in the works currently including a new cable network television show premiering later this year, a new radio show on Sirius/XM as well the publishing of a much anticipated rock music industry insider memoir in 2015.
